During the recent ARM Convention, Mitch Voehl, Marketing Representative for The Bosshart Company, was named the 2004 ARM Promoter of the Year.
Mitch was recognized for his commitment to the ready mix industry through his dedicated efforts both on a professional and volunteer level. Mitch has been actively involved promoting career opportunities in the concrete industry to high school students and has organized other industry professionals to join him to speak to the Concrete Masonry class at Alexandria Technical College. Mitch has also developed materials for The Bosshart Company employees to utilize in their promotion efforts. He organized the “Concrete Mixer” for The Bosshart Company geared at consumers who wanted to learn about the many uses of cementitious materials for their homes and businesses. He created a booklet promoting decorative concrete that have greatly expanded The Bosshart Company’s sales of all products related to decorative concrete. Mitch has been very successful in promoting the use of concrete in parking lots as well.

The newest version of ASTM C150 allows the use of up to 5% limestone in cement. This change will reduce the amount of greenhouse gases, energy used and waste generated for each ton of cement produced. Two of the questions from the industry and governing bodies include
| 1. |
What performance changes could be anticipated from adding limestone to the cement? |
| 2. |
Will it affect the long term durability of the concrete? |
The Portland Cement Association has data comparing cements with and without limestone but more recently Holcim (US) has been carrying out trials with cement containing limestone to develop data in our home state of Minnesota. These trials have been performed with cement from Holcim’s sister company in Canada, St. Lawrence Cement. They have been producing cement containing limestone since the mid 80’s for markets in Canada and provide great opportunity in Minnesota to test cement made with and without limestone that originates from the same plant.

Republicans will hold a razor thin 68-66 advantage in the Minnesota House of Representatives going into the 2005 legislative session this January, creating conditions that could make it one of the most contentious sessions in recent years.
Although slim, the majority means Republicans will retain the power to name committee chairs. It also means a single renegade Representative could neutralize its advantage on any given issue. Mix into the equation nine open House committee chairs as a result of the election and retirements, and the “opportunities for compromise” multiply.

Dear CPAM members and friends -
On Tuesday, December 14, the home of longtime CPAM member and CPAM Past President Ken Hoffman was destroyed by a house fire. Ken and Mary had built the home and lived there for over twenty years. As can be seen by the following newspaper articles, the Hoffman family remains strong and resilient through this ordeal that has completely destroyed their home and most of their belongings.
A Ken and Mary Hoffman Fire Relief Fund has been established, and Mankato- and Blue Earth-area Wells Fargo banks are accepting donations:
Wells Fargo Bank, 206 E Hickory Street, Mankato, MN 56001 (507-625-1872)
Wells Fargo Bank, 1600 E Madison Avenue, Mankato, MN 56001 (507-387-9222)
Wells Fargo Bank, 201 E 7th Street, Blue Earth, MN 56013 (507-526-2174)
Please keep Ken and Mary and their family in your prayers, and I'm sure any support will be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
