A Call for Entries - Lifetime Achievement Award & Promoter of the Year Award

ARM has made a call for entries for the 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2005 Promoter of the Year Award.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was created in an effort to recognize greatness in the aggregate and/or ready mix industries.  The Lifetime Achievement Award recipient demonstrates a commitment to the aggregate and/or ready mix industries through dedicated efforts both on a professional and volunteer level.  These dedicated efforts will have spanned a “lifetime” and the results of those efforts should be lasting and significant.  The nominee need not be an ARM member.  However, ARM membership will be considered during the selection process.

The ARM Promoter of the Year Award was created in 2003 in an effort to recognize greatness in the aggregate and/or ready mix industries.  The Promoter of the Year Award recipient demonstrates a commitment to the aggregate and/or ready mix industries through dedicated efforts both on a professional and volunteer level.  These dedicated efforts need not have spanned a “lifetime” but the results of those efforts should be clearly evident and successful.  The nominee MUST be an ARM member (Producer OR Associate).  Past winners include Jason Kruger of Holcim (US), Inc. and Mitch Voehl of The Bosshart Company

Completed nominations for both awards must be received by the ARM office by no later than November 1, 2005.  The awards will be presented during the Building Excellence Awards Banquet and ARM Annual Convention December 14-15 at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis.  Contact Margaret Mills with any questions.

Building Excellence Awards Submission Forms Due October 15, 2005


Project submission forms for the Building Excellence Awards must be received by the ARM office no later than October 15, 2005.  The completed submission form must be accompanied by four to six high resolution digital photos of the project.

The Building Excellence Awards Banquet will be held Wednesday, December 14 at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis.  Our emcees will once again be Doug Burns of the North Central Cement Council and Brad Burke of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association.

ARM ICF Committee Focuses on Providing Educational Opportunities

ARM’s ICF Committee is busy making arrangements to offer ICF education to builders with local home builder associations.  To date, four presentations have been scheduled for early 2006 with the Central Minnesota Builders Association, the Rochester Area Builders Association, Lakes Region Builders Association and the Builders Association of the Twin Cities. 

ARM has an ICF course approved by the State of Minnesota for one or two hours of continuing education credits.  ARM is also sponsoring NAHB’s eight-hour ICF course at the Builders Association of the Twin Cities on March 15.

ARM Sponsors the St. Paul Inline Marathon

Over 1,600 inline skaters participated in the Second Annual Saint Paul Inline Marathon on Sunday, August 21.  ARM was on-hand at the finish line to talk with skaters about the race route that included sections of newer concrete pavement.  ARM also provided information on the use of concrete in other recreational uses such as paths and cartways as well as swimming pools and skate parks.

ARM to Meet with Speaker of the Minnesota House, Steve Sviggum

ARM Executive Director, Fred Corrigan, and ARM aggregate producer members will be meeting with Speaker of the Minnesota House, Steve Sviggum September 13, 2005 to discuss aggregate preservation issues and specifically the aggregate property tax legislation that failed to pass the 2005 legislative session.  For additional information on this upcoming meeting, please contact Fred Corrigan at the ARM office at 952-707-1250.

ARM to Have Booth at the American Public Works Association Expo

The APWA International Congress and Expo will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center September 11-14.  ARM will be on-hand to provide information on pervious concrete as well as controlled low strength material (CLSM).  For more information, please contact Fred Corrigan at the ARM office at 952-707-1250.

Parking Lot/Local Street Presentations Being Made

ARM Parking Lot/Local Streets Promotions Director, Larry Koenig, has been busy with box lunch presentations recently.  Over 75 people have attended five presentations given at engineering and consulting firms.  Along with a demonstration of NRMCA’s Pavement Analyst Software have been promotional presentations on the range of projects ARM ready mix producers are participating in and the applications of concrete that can be utilized in city streets, county roads, parking lots, round-abouts, pervious concrete and other miscellaneous applications.  For additional information, or to schedule a box lunch presentation, please contact Larry Koenig.

ARM to Make Parking Lot Presentation at MC&MCA Dinner Meeting

Larry Koenig, ARM Parking Lot/Local Streets Promotions Director, will be making a presentation at the September 20, 2005 dinner meeting of the MC&MCA.  The ARM presentation will focus on concrete parking lots, their designs and their advantages.  The experience of the MnROAD test road will demonstrate the validity of designs which are being used that depart from typical MnDOT standards.  Included in the advantages demonstrated are appearance, light relectivity and reduced maintenance expenses.  Available design tools will be presented but in the interest of time, will not be demonstrated.

ARMofMN.com Website Updated

The ARMofMN.com website has been updated recently to include a map by which ARM-member aggregate producers can be located.  Similar to the existing ready-mix producer locater, the new map lists (by region) aggregate producers and the counties in which they do business.  Check it out by clicking HERE.

ACI/MnDOT Certification Season Right Around the Corner
The 2005-2006 ACI/MnDOT certification courses offered through ARM will be available at www.armofmn.com beginning October 1, 2005.  For the first time, ARM will now be accepting credit card payment for course registrations.  A new ACI Concrete Finisher course has been added to the course offerings this year.  Contact Jill Cohen at the ARM office at 952-707-1250 if you would like a print version of the course guide mailed to you on October 1.

Twin Cities Fall Parade of Homes to Feature ICF Homes
